Jade Carey Fights Through Illness, Advances to Vault Finals at Paris Olympics

July 29, 2024

Paris – Phoenix gymnast Jade Carey has made an impressive comeback at the Paris Summer Olympics, despite recent health setbacks. Carey, who previously claimed gold in floor exercise at the 2020 Tokyo Games, currently stands second in the vault competition.

At 24, Carey’s return to the Olympics is a significant milestone, especially after battling illness in the days leading up to the games. She revealed that she’s been struggling with her health and had difficulty eating, which affected her performance in the floor exercise. Nevertheless, Carey delivered a strong performance in the vault, earning an average score of 14.433, which has positioned her well for the finals.

Carey’s journey is supported by her father, Brian, who is also her coach. The father-daughter duo has managed to maintain a balance between their personal and professional relationship, with Brian’s dual role as both coach and parent being a cornerstone of Jade’s career.

The 2024 Olympics mark a contrast from the 2020 Games, which were held without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Carey is looking forward to competing in front of a live audience in Paris.

Despite a challenging start, including a fall during her floor exercise routine, Carey’s resilience shone through as she rallied on the vault. Her performance, along with her team’s leading position, underscores the strength and determination of the U.S. gymnastics squad.

Carey’s mother, “Danielle Greenberg,” provided an update on her daughter’s condition, noting that Jade is improving and focusing on recovery. Jade Carey’s continued perseverance and dedication highlight her commitment to excellence in gymnastics.
