PTI, JI Protests Lead to Increased Security Measures in Islamabad

July 26, 2024

Islamabad, Pakistan — Today, opposition parties Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have launched nationwide protests. In response to the growing unrest, authorities have heightened security and imposed restrictions in key areas.

PTI’s protests are primarily driven by demands for the release of their leader, Imran Khan, and other party figures. The party alleges that Khan and his associates have been unjustly detained and seeks to challenge what it describes as politically motivated arrests. PTI’s demonstrations also address broader concerns about government actions and call for new elections.

JI is holding a sit-in at D-Chowk to protest high electricity costs and overbilling, while JUI is demonstrating against rising inflation. Authorities have sealed off the Red Zone and conducted raids, resulting in several arrests.

In response, Metrobus services between IJP and Pak Secretariat are suspended, and Section 144 has been imposed in Punjab and Islamabad, banning public gatherings due to security concerns. The situation remains tense as political unrest continues to escalate.
